Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile (called “profil podjetja v Googlu” in Slovenian) is a free listing that appears on Google Maps and when people search for your business. In local searches, such as “plumber Novo mesto”, it is often the first thing a customer sees. We can set up the profile for you, or you can follow the guide below.

Who it's for

Who it is for

  • Local service businesses: tradespeople, salons, hospitality, repair services.
  • Businesses that have a profile, but it is incomplete or untidy.
  • Businesses that don't appear on the map when people search for their services.

How to set up a Google Business Profile in 6 steps

  1. Sign in. Go to business.google.com and sign in with the Google account you will use for the business.
  2. Business name. Enter the name exactly as you use it on your sign, invoices and website. Don't add keywords.
  3. Primary category. Choose the category that most precisely describes your main activity. This is one of the most important settings.
  4. Location or service area. Add your address if customers visit you, or the area you cover if you go to customers.
  5. Ownership verification. Google offers a verification method, for example by video or a code. Until the profile is verified, you can't fully edit it.
  6. Complete it. Add opening hours, phone number, website, services, a description and a few real photos of your premises, team and work.

Why the profile matters even more in Slovenia

Searches that include a place name get very little traffic in Slovenia. According to search data, “izdelava spletnih strani Ljubljana” (website design Ljubljana) gets a few dozen searches a month, and smaller towns almost none. So it is almost impossible to win local customers with words in your page copy alone. They come through the map, where Google shows nearby businesses even if no place is typed into the search.

What affects ranking on Google Maps

For local results, Google looks at three things: relevance (how well the profile matches the search), distance (how close the business is to the searcher) and prominence (how well known the business is, including through reviews and mentions online). You can't influence distance, but you can influence relevance and prominence: with a complete profile, regular reviews and a good website.

The most common mistakes

  • A primary category that is too general or wrong
  • Name, address or phone number written differently on the profile and the website
  • A profile with no photos, or with stock photos
  • Unanswered reviews, including positive ones
  • Keywords added to the business name, which goes against Google's guidelines
FAQ

FAQ

Is Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Creating and managing a profile with Google is free.

Can I have a profile if I don't have business premises?

Yes. Service businesses that go to their customers can hide their address and list the area they cover instead.

How do I get more reviews?

After finishing a job, ask happy customers for a review and send them a direct link to your profile. Don't buy reviews: Google removes them and may penalise the profile.

Do I need a website if I have a Google profile?

The profile is the starting point, and the website is where you show your work, prices and services. Both work best together, since the profile sends visitors to the site.

How much do you charge to set up a profile?

From around €80. We tell you the price up front. When we build your website, setting up the profile is often part of the package.

Want a free draft?

A draft in 48 hours, a fixed price within one working day. No obligation.
